![]() Administrator Nick Hernandez is Board Certified in Healthcare Management by the American College of Healthcare Executives. Mr. Hernandez is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a former Captain in the U.S. Marine Corps. He holds MBA degrees in both Operations Management and Information Technology & E-Business Management from Wake Forest University. As Administrator he is responsible for maintaining effective operations of the Center’s administration, finance, and information systems and also assists in the organizational development effort. Mr. Hernandez works with our supervisors to promote teamwork and collaboration, quality performance standards, professionalism and integrity. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for Radiation Oncology Administrators (SROA). Director of Nursing Maria Appel, the bi-lingual Director of Nursing for the Center for Radiation Oncology, received her Associate in Nursing degree from Pensacola Junior College. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida Southern College in 2002. Recently, she earned her Oncology Certified Nurse status. Maria has several years of experience in home health, which gives her a special understanding of her patients’ needs. She oversees the nursing department, consisting of MAs, LPNs and RNs at all five CRO centers. Physicist Adrian Markus is a Medical Physicist, board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics. He holds a Master of Science in Medical Physics from the first AAPM accredited program at the University of Oklahoma, HSC, where he graduated with a 4.0 on a Merit Scholarship. He has 20 years of experience in this field and has helped set up several new radiation oncology centers. He came to the Center for Radiation Oncology (CRO) from a joint center between Vantage Oncology and Brockton Hospital. While there he started the first Tomotherapy IGRT Center in New England as their Chief Medical Physicist. Adrian has developed and implemented the first HDR IGRT in Florida, as part of the AccuBoost image guided breast boost procedure at the Center for Radiation Oncology. Dosimetrist Dawn Thompson is a board certified Medical Dosimetrist. She graduated from Northwest Community Hospital in Illinois with her degree as a Radiologic Technologist in 1992 and from St. Joseph Hospital in Illinois with a degree in Radiation Therapy in 1993. She is experienced in 3-D Conformal Therapy, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Prostate Implants, High-Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy and Low-Dose Rate Brachytherapy. She has been a board certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) since 2002. Dawn joined the Center for Radiation Oncology in June of 2007. |
