HDR Brachytherapy
High Dose Rate Radiation Therapy .
The Center for Radiation Oncology center employs the Nucletron microSelectron-HDR V2 with PLATO Treatment Planning System with 18 channel remote afterloader for interstitial, intraluminal, intracavitary and intraoperative high dose rate Brachytherapy. The center’s HDR capability is mobile and may be utilized at all existing centers.

Some of the features/advantages of High Dose Rate radiation are:
  • HDR can be used to treat many forms of cancer, the most common being lung, cervical, rectal, and esophageal cancers and is also utilized to augment the treatment of prostate and breast cancers.
  • The HDR capability allows the patient to be treated on an out patient basis while providing the patient with an effective and much more comfortable treatment regime than traditional brachytherapy.
  • HDR uses the latest in computer technology, and the radioactive source is controlled remotely.
  • HDR is safer than traditional brachytherapy and the radioactive source can be positioned during treatments to tailor the dose distribution for each unique situation.
